History of IFM
The Institute For Mission (IFM) has grown from the seeds of the Parramatta Pastoral Institute (PPI) founded in 1991 under the auspices of the then-Bishop of Parramatta, Bishop Bede Heather.
During PPI’s existence, many people from the Catholic Diocese of Parramatta participated in formation programs and appreciated the foundation of a diocesan library.
Bishop Bede’s successor, Bishop Kevin Manning, initiated a thorough review of the pastoral institute. The findings of this review led to the establishment of the IFM in its current form in 2002. Bishop Manning appointed a board in 2002 to support the work of the new IFM.
These men and women have expertise in adult formation, spirituality, theology, program design, financial management, professional development and communication. Above all, each of them has a passion for the work of the IFM and the ongoing support of the people of our diocese.
The Bishop appointed Sisters Maria Bongiorno ibvm and Linda Ferrington rsc as Directors in February 2003. Since that time, a variety of courses has been designed and developed, to meet the spiritual needs and hopes for continued learning of those who are involved in parish ministry.
